Dear Lord God, I am laying to rest a fellow Marine this afternoon. Please God give these Marines the strength and courage to complete the duties seen unto them to give this Marine a proper burial. And may this Marine's soul find peace, just as h...is family will find peace. And God, give them strength to move on in these trying times. In His name I pray. Amen.

here in camp pendleton, there are a lot of hills and mountains that run through the base. one such mountain is nicknames Recon Ride because it runs through the School of Infantry (where im at right now). most of us only go up to the Alpha Shelf of the mountain, which is about halfway up. only the marines in Recon training go alllll the way up, thus the name Recon Ridge.

so! for this weekend weve been restricted to on base liberty only. but not just on base! we are further restricted to the school of infantry area only. theres absolutely nothing to do here. and when marines get bored, which we do often, chaos and havoc often ensues. so we got the bright idea to hike up to Recon Ridge, just to say that we did it, and also to burn off some calories and kill some time. so here it is, in all its glory, my recording of our trip up to Recon Ridge:

i found out on friday that i most likely will not be deployed.

see, this is how it is--im a reservist with my station at Fort Detrick in Fredrick, MD. me and this other marine here in pendleton are in the same unit and weve been hearing rumors about our unit being deployed. and yknow how much i hate rumors. so after finally getting the number for the unit, i called em up and talked to a sergeant and asked what was up.

sergeant told me that the units getting mobilized to the west coast for their work up training on august 1st. they train for 6 months on their work up and then a 6 or 7 months in afghanistan. buuuut, i graduate the Infantry Training Battalion on july 27th. im not 100% sure on what date, but after i graduate i move down the street to the Light Armored Vehicle School and then im there for 6 weeks. so that means well be missing a good portion of their work up. plus, they only need 140 marines to fill their quota. so on those two notes, i most likely will not be deploying with them. in which case ill be reporting to my unit normally and doing my regular monthly reservist duties.
